Amador County Gold Districts
There are a couple places in Amador County that have been very good for prospecting. These places are Dry Creek and Gold Beach Park. Dry Creek runs all the way through Amador County and there are several ways to get to it. it crosses Highway 49 at Dry Town. Gold Beach Park is located around five miles north of Plymouth on Highway 49 and it is positioned on the river and is a commercial operation.
There are also other creeks that have gold that cross the Highway; some of the known of places are Sutter, Jackson, Rancheria and Amador. These creeks were at one time very productive and you may just get lucky checking them out.
Gold Districts
Consumnes
Consumnes is not actually considered a gold district however the Consumnes river does have some gold in it and the good thing is that it is not worked on as much as other places so it may be productive to check it out. the south fork of the river crosses the highway 4 here and the are of the east of the highway is a good place to consider going to.
Comanche
The district of Comanche is mostly covered the by the Comanche Dam Recreation Area now and it is located in Calaveras County.
Fiddletown
The district of Fiddletown got its name due to a group of miners from Missouri that worked on the diggings in this place. For some reason these men would only work when it was wet and when it was dry they “fiddled” around from what has been said, therefore Fiddletown it was named.
To get to the district of Fiddletown you will need to drive east on the Fiddletown Road off of Highway 49 in Plymouth. This area is mostly a placer gold area but there have been some narrow quartz gold veins that have been worked on in the area. The placer gold can be found in ancient Tertiary channel gravels.
Forest Home
There is nothing left in the district of Forest Home anymore. The site of this camp can be reached by taking Highway 16 west just about five or six miles from its junction with Highway 49. The gold in this area was found in old gravel deposits.
