Describing a Claim
For the purpose of preparing a description to identify the location of your claim on the location notice, you can estimate the approximate direction from your reference point on the corner of steel bridge as simply “Southwest.” By stepping off the distance you find it is 625 steps of three feet each, giving 1875 feet to the nearest corner “B.” now, you can state the location of your claim on the location notice as follows:
From the southwest corner of the Roscoe Bridge on the Ruby River, Madison County, Montana; approximately 1875 feet in a southwesterly direction to point “B” the northwest corner of this claim; from point B 1500 feet northwest, parallel to the trend of the discovery vein “D,” to point “A,” thence 90 degrees southwest 600 feet to point “C,” thence southeast 1500 feet, parallel to the trend line, to pint “S,” thence northeast 600 feet to point “B” the point of beginning.
This improvised description, while not entirely accurate, is sufficient and legal as far staking your claim is concerned. (Note: this is not an actual location.)
